2012 Belmont Stakes: Entries, Post Positions, Morning Line Odds And Past Performances

06 Jun

Triple Crown hopeful I’ll Have Another leads a field of 12 horses in Saturday’s Grade 1 Belmont Stakes (post time 3:15pm Eastern; TV: NBC) and is the odds-on morning line favorite at 4/5. Dullahan, third in the Kentucky Derby five weeks ago, is the second choice on the morning line at odds of 5/1. Union Rags, second in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile last fall at Churchill Downs, is the third choice at odds of 6/1.

I’ll Have Another drew post position #11 which should suit him just fine and keep him out in the clear in the early stages of the race. In the Derby and the Preakness, I’ll Have Another relaxed quite well when running in the three or four path, allowing jockey Mario Gutierrez to settle him into a good rhythm in the early stages. He should be able to get I’ll Have Another into a similar running style from the #11 post.

Paynter, the dominant winner of a allowance race at Pimlico on Preakness Day, is the top new shooter in the Belmont Stakes at odds of 8/1. Paynter is owned by Zayat Stables and trained by Bob Baffert, the same connections as Derby and Preakness runner-up Bodemeister.

Below are the entries, post positions and morning line odds for the 2012 Belmont Stakes.
