2012 Belmont Stakes: Entries, Post Positions, Morning Line Odds And Past Performances

Triple Crown hopeful I’ll Have Another leads a field of 12 horses in Saturday’s Grade 1 Belmont Stakes (post time 3:15pm Eastern; TV: NBC) and is the odds-on morning line favorite at 4/5. Dullahan, third in the Kentucky Derby five weeks ago, is the second choice on the morning line at odds of 5/1. Union Rags, second in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile last fall at Churchill Downs, is the third choice at odds of 6/1.

I’ll Have Another drew post position #11 which should suit him just fine and keep him out in the clear in the early stages of the race. In the Derby and the Preakness, I’ll Have Another relaxed quite well when running in the three or four path, allowing jockey Mario Gutierrez to settle him into a good rhythm in the early stages. He should be able to get I’ll Have Another into a similar running style from the #11 post.

Paynter, the dominant winner of a allowance race at Pimlico on Preakness Day, is the top new shooter in the Belmont Stakes at odds of 8/1. Paynter is owned by Zayat Stables and trained by Bob Baffert, the same connections as Derby and Preakness runner-up Bodemeister.

Below are the entries, post positions and morning line odds for the 2012 Belmont Stakes.

George Zimmerman’s bond hearing in Trayvon Martin shooting case set for June 29, attorney says( Zimmerman and his lawyer to sacrifice Shellie Zimmerman)

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. – The legal team for the man accused of shooting 17-year-old Trayvon Martin paid their client a visit Tuesday evening.

George Zimmerman sits in the Seminole County jail in a protective custody cell awaiting his next bond hearing.

According to Mark O’Mara, Zimmerman’s bond hearing will be June 29.

The bond hearing was pushed back a couple of weeks because of scheduling issues with Judge Kenneth Lester and the other attorneys.

Lester revoked Zimmerman’s bond after the state alleged he and his wife conspired to lie to the court about their finances.

Zimmerman’s attorney, Mark O’Mara, said his client has learned his lesson that he has to be completely truthful when he presents himself to the court.

O’Mara said he is happy to have the time to prepare Zimmerman’s testimony, but said Zimmerman is worried about his wife’s possible legal issues for not telling the truth during the first bond hearing.

Shelly Zimmerman could face perjury charges along with her husband for lying about the money, according to veteran defense attorney Jeff Deen.

“He’s worried now because the judge is now worried about their lack of candor,” said O’Mara. “The focus is going to be on Shelly, because Shelly is the one that didn’t state affirmatively that the money was available when she knew it was there. So, yes we are going to have to deal with that.”

Zimmerman was fearful to disclose the fact that he had more than $100,000 in a legal fund that he raised on his website, according to O’Mara.

Wisconsin Recall Election: Democrats Gain Control Of State Senate After John Lehman Declares Victory

Former Sen. John Lehman was the only Democrat on the recall ballots to declare victory.

At 12:53 a.m., he dedicated his victory to all the hard work and hours of service from volunteers who led the recall efforts in the 21st Senate District, where they went after Sen. Van Wanggaard, who had defeated Lehman in November 2010.

The final vote totals were posted after 1:30 a.m., and by 2 a.m., district-wide unofficial results stood at:
Wanggaard: 35,476
Lehman: 36,255

This win gives Democrats control of the State Senate. These results remain unofficial until they are certified.

About an hour before Lehman declared victory, Sen. Van Wanggaard told his supporters they could go home and that they would decide what their options were in the morning.

“The numbers are so close,” Wanggaard said. “We don’t really know where we’re at.”

Lehman said he’s not surprised by his opponent’s reaction.

“I can see why he’d do that,” he said. “The race comes down to less than 1,000 votes.”

A group of about 75 supporters stuck it out until the end, crowding Lehman as he delivered the news.

“This wasn’t an easy victory,” he said. “But I’m excited about the new majority and getting back to an atmosphere of reasonableness that’s been missing in Madison.”

Scott Walker Defeats Tom Barrett: Wisconsin Recall Results 2012

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) was projected the winner of Tuesday night’s gubernatorial primary by NBC News.

The latest polls showed Walker leading Democratic challenger Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett going into the contest.

The AP relays background on the race:
The first-term Republican was back on the ballot just a year and a half after his election. Enraged Democrats and labor activists gathered more than 900,000 signatures to force the vote after they failed to stop Walker and his GOP allies in the state Legislature from stripping most public employees of their collective bargaining rights.

The recall is a rematch of the 2010 election in which Walker beat Democratic Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett by nearly 6 points.
