A man with a reported hatred of sex offenders shoots 2 sex offenders dead

A man with a reported hatred of sex offenders was arrested Sunday in Port Angeles for allegedly killing two men, both registered sex offenders.

And a Clallam County detective said he has reason to believe the suspect may have been targeting other sex offenders.

Patrick Drum, 34, was arrested after a three-and-a-half-hour manhunt in dense woods with the help of dozens of law enforcement officers and a police helicopter.

Victims Jerry Wayne Ray, 56, and Gary Lee Blanton, 28, were found dead from gunshot wounds earlier at two separate houses.

Detectives said evidence from the crime scenes indicated Drum had an animosity toward sex offenders. The Associated Press reported a note was left behind in which Drum stated he hated sex offenders and “it had to be done.”

Ray and Blanton were both Level II sex offenders.

According to a court document released Monday afternoon, “Drum also (said) he had intended on driving to Jefferson County where another sex offender resided, with intent to kill him too.”

The series of events began early Sunday when Clallam County Sheriff’s deputies found Ray dead in a home at 31 Heuhslein Road.

At the same time, a suspicious person report on Blue Mountain Road between Sequim and Port Angeles led detectives to an abandoned car. Inside the car, detectives said a note tied Drum to Ray’s death.

Further evidence pointed officers to a house in Sequim, located at 5011 Sequim Dungeness Way, where Blanton’s body was found.

A suspect search was launched, which eventually uncovered Drum in an area near Gellor Road and Blue Mountain Road.

Detectives said Drum knew both Ray and Blanton. Blanton recently moved into the house on Sequim Dungeness Way rented by Drum.

Teen allegedly on bath salt assaults paramedic

Authorities have charged a man, who they say jumped from a bridge, swam to shore, ran down the hike and bike trail half naked and injured a public servant, while allegedly under the influence of bath salt.

According to Austin Police, 18-year-old Giovanni Leaski jumped off the Pfluger Bridge, which is a violation of city ordinance. He then swam to shore and striped down to his boxers and ran down the hike and bike trail.

According to Police he claimed to be “God” and said that he wanted to “to die.” He talked about angels and later said he was the “devil.” He also said a lot of things that did not make sense.

Police called EMS to provide treatment for because they believed he was under the influence of a substance.

EMS personnel stated they believed Leaski was under the influence of bath salt. Medics attempted to place Leaski on a stretcher but he resisted and kicked one paramedic in the throat.

Both Leaski and the paramedic were transported to Brackenridge Hospital in separate ambulances.

The paramedic suffered serious injuries.

Zimmerman Admits Lying To The Judge; Plans To Use The Fear, Mistrust, and Confused (Another Lie) Defense.

While Mr. Zimmerman acknowledges that he allowed his financial situation to be misstated in court, the defense will emphasize that in all other regards, Mr. Zimmerman has been forthright and cooperative. He gave several voluntary statements to the police, re-enacted the events for them, gave voice exemplars for comparison and stayed in ongoing contact with the Department of Law Enforcement during his initial stage of being in hiding. He has twice surrendered himself to law enforcement when asked to do so, and this should demonstrate that Mr. Zimmerman is not a flight risk. He has also complied with all conditions of his release, including curfew, keeping in touch with his supervising officers, and maintaining his GPS monitoring, without violation.

The audio recordings of Mr. Zimmerman’s phone conversations while in jail make it clear that Mr. Zimmerman knew a significant sum had been raised by his original fundraising website. We feel the failure to disclose these funds was caused by fear, mistrust, and confusion. The gravity of this mistake has been distinctly illustrated, and Mr. Zimmerman understands that this mistake has undermined his credibility, which he will have to work to repair.

Cuomo law would decriminalize small amounts of marijuana

NEW YORK (WABC) — New York Governor Andrew Cuomo will ask for a new law aimed at reducing the number of people who would face arrest for marijuana possession after a police stop.

The governor will call for the decriminalization of small amounts of marijuana in public view.

Possession of less than 25 grams was reduced to a violation in 1977, subject to a ticket and fine. If the pot is burning or in public view, it rises to a misdemeanor that leads to arrest.00000000000000000

One in seven arrests made in New York City are for low-level marijuana possession.

Most of those arrests spring from the stop-and-frisk policy of the NYPD, and the new law is meant to limit its impact.

Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly has reminded officers they cannot trigger an arrest by searching people or telling them to empty their pockets. He says most arrests result from drug transactions or public pot smoking witnessed by officers.

Luka Rocco Magnotta arrested in Berlin, German police say

Luka Rocco Magnotta was arrested in Berlin Monday after a four-day international manhunt that spanned three countries.

The 29-year-old Canadian wanted over a horrific Montreal ice pick murder and decapitation of a Chinese student that he allegedly filmed and posted to the Internet, was arrested in or near an Internet cafe, Berlin police said.

A Canadian official has confirmed the arrest to The Canadian Press.

The report comes just as French authorities said they were investigating the theory that Magnotta travelled from Paris to Berlin via bus on the weekend.

“Somebody recognized him and (then) all the police recognized him,” Berlin police spokesperson Stefan Rieldich told CP24.

Rieldich said police were called in by a civilian who spotted Magnotta and he was arrested after police asked for his identification at about 2:00 p.m. local time.

According to Germany’s BZ website, it was the owner of the Internet cafe that recognized Magnotta.

Rieldich said Magnotta has been taken into custody and may go in front of a judge tomorrow.

Canadian officials are expected to travel to Berlin to take Magnotta into their custody in the near future.

Two new polls show tight race in Wisconsin recall

(Reuters) – Two public opinion polls released on Sunday show Wisconsin Republican Governor Scott Walker with a lead of three and six percentage points two days before the election to recall him because of a new law reducing the power of public sector unions.

Public Policy Polling, a Democratic polling firm, said Walker was leading 50 percent to 47 percent over Democratic challenger Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett in its final survey. Angus Reid polling had Walker ahead 53 percent to 47 percent. Both findings were within the margin of error so the results could be even tighter.

The PPP margin of three percentage points compared with a five-point Walker lead in their survey three weeks ago.

“If Democrats turn out in the numbers they did in 2008, Tom Barrett will win a surprise victory. If they don’t, Walker will survive,” Dean Debnam, president of PPP, said in a statement on the polling firms website.

Wisconsin’s independent agency managing the election last week projected a turnout of 60 percent to 65 percent of the voting age population in the recall. This would be higher than the 49.7 percent turnout in the 2010 election for governor won by Walker, but not as high as the 69.2 percent turnout in the 2008 election won by President Barack Obama.

PPP said it surveyed 1,226 likely voters on June 2 and 3 and the poll has a margin of error of 2.8 percent. PPP surveys frequently for Democrats but the firm said the final poll was not paid for by any candidate or political group.

Angus Reid surveyed 524 registered voters from May 30 to June 2 and has an error margin of 4.3 percent.

Neither poll showed a significant number of undecided voters, suggesting that turnout likely will determine the outcome. Both sides have massive operations under way to turn out their supporters.

Last year Walker pushed through the legislature a law forcing state and local workers to pay more for health insurance and pensions, limited their pay rises, made payment of union dues voluntary and forced unions to be recertified every year. The measure angered Democrats and unions, who gathered nearly 1 million signatures on petitions to force the recall election.

Some analysts are calling the Wisconsin recall the second most important U.S. election of the year because it could indicate which way the political wind is blowing in a key battleground state before the November presidential vote
