Nick Gordon, the boyfriend of the late Bobbi Kristina Brown, drugged her and placed her face-down in the bathtub where she was found unresponsive in her Georgia home, according to an amended civil lawsuit filed Friday.

In the updated complaint filed in the Superior Court of Georgia’s Fulton County, Bedelia C. Hargrove, Brown’s court-appointed conservator, claimed that Gordon came home around 6 a.m. on the morning of Jan. 31, 2015, after partying “all-night on a cocaine and drinking binge” and grew angry after reviewing camera footage.

Bernie Sanders Abandons Speech After Black Lives Matter Protest

Bernie Sanders was slated to give a speech at an event in Seattle city park Saturday celebrating the anniversary of Social Security and Medicare. But moments after he took the stage, a coterie of protestors from a Seattle chapter of Black Lives Matter usurped the senator from Vermont, taking the mic. They asked the crowd to hold a moment of silence to commemorate the one-year anniversary of Michael Brown’s death in Ferguson, Missouri.

Subsequently, Marissa Janae Johnson, who identified herself as a leader of the Black Lives Matter chapter, asked the crowd to “join [them] now in holding Bernie Sanders accountable for his actions,” the Washington Postreports. The group maintains that Sanders has not yet shown that he’d adequately address police brutality or structural racism, should he win the Democratic nomination.

Head of pro-Rand Paul super PAC indicted in payment scheme

A close confidant of Sen. Rand Paul was indicted Wednesday for an alleged conspiracy to bribe an Iowa state senator in 2011 to shift allegiances to Paul’s father, Ron, then a candidate for the Republican presidential nomination.

Jesse Benton, a longtime aide to the younger Paul who’s now helming a super PAC supporting the Kentucky Republican’s 2016 presidential bid, faces charges of conspiracy, obstructing an investigation, submitting false campaign finance reports to the Federal Election Commission and making false statements to the FBI. Two other operatives, John Tate and Dimitrios Kesari, also face charges connected to the alleged payoff.

A call to Benton’s cellphone revealed that his voicemail box was full. He did not immediately respond to an email request for comment.

After several hours of silence, Paul’s campaign questioned the timing of the charges.

“Senator Rand Paul is disappointed that the Obama justice department chose to release this just prior to the highly anticipated first Republican presidential debate,” said a campaign spokesman, who asked not to be identified. “It certainly appears suspiciously timed and possibly, politically motivated. Additionally, these actions are from 2012 and have nothing to do with our campaign.”

Another Benton client, Kentucky state Rep. Mike Harmon, said Benton called him Wednesday afternoon and told him Paul has his back.

“He said Rand is standing with him and some of his other clients would be standing with him,” Harmon said.

Benton is managing Harmon’s campaign for state auditor, and Harmon said he’s going to take 24 hours to decide whether to keep him on staff. “I’m going to think about it and pray about it,” he said. Harmon said Benton told him he intends to ask for an “expedient review” of the charges against him and potentially dispense with the matter within the next two months.

According to the Justice Department, the three operatives paid more than $70,000 — concealed as legitimate campaign expenditures — to then-state Sen. Kent Sorenson in order to shift his support from Rep. Michele Bachmann to the elder Paul. Sorenson made his switch public on Dec. 28, 2011, in Des Moines. The three operatives also coached Sorenson to lie when asked whether he was offered money for his support, according to the indictment.

“Violating campaign finance laws by concealing payments to an elected official undermines our electoral system and deceives the public,” said Special Agent in Charge David LeValley. “The FBI will aggressively investigate those who corrupt the integrity of our democratic process.”

Nashville movie theater shooting suspect pronounced dead

Alleged gunman, armed with gun and hatchet, killed after firing on officer

The suspect behind yet another movie theater shooting was declared dead after opening fire on a police officer early Wednesday afternoon in a Nashville, Tennessee, suburb.

Antioch, Tenn theater shooting

Officers from the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department responded to reports of a man with a gun and a hatchet inside a showing of “Mad Max: Fury Road” at the Carmike 8 Cinemas on Bell Road at 1:15 p.m. in Antioch, authorities said.

Don Aaron, a public information officer, said the gunman shot at a police office, prompting him to return fire. A SWAT team moved in and exchanged fire. Ultimately, he said, the suspect exited out the back door of the theater where he was confronted by more police officers who shot and killed him.

“The actions of that first officer who went in the theater to engage this individual may well have saved multiple individuals inside that theater,” Aaron said during a presser on site.

The suspect, a 51-year-old local man, was wearing a surgical mask and doused two women’s faces with pepper spray, authorities said.

“The gunman apparently unleashed this pepper spray throughout the theater,” Aaron said. “As the SWAT team entered that theater, it was very thick with chemical spray, with irritant. Gas masks were brought in to those officers as they attempted to get this person into custody.”

Brian Hass, a Nashville Fire Department spokesman, confirmed that two people were injured with pepper spray and one person was injured by the hatchet. The injuries were minor and no one was hospitalized.

“This could have been a lot worse” Hass said.

Aaron explained that the first two officers were able to respond quickly because they were working a crash on on Bell Road just beyond the cinema’s property. Witnesses from the theater ran to the cops to report the armed man inside.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — A police officer was fatally shot Saturday night during a traffic stop in Memphis and a manhunt is underway for the suspect, Tennessee police officials said.

Memphis Police Director Toney Armstrong said during a news conference that police received a call at about 9:15 p.m. Saturday about an officer being shot. Armstrong said the officer was conducting a traffic stop when he was shot multiple times. The officer was transported in critical condition to a hospital, where he died.

In a statement Sunday morning, Memphis Police identified the slain officer as 33-year-old Sean Bolton. No further details were released.

Armstrong said police have not made an arrest and the suspect is on the run. He said police are using all available resources to find the shooter.

Bolton is the third Memphis officer to be fatally shot in slightly more than four years. Officer Tim Warren was killed while responding to a shooting at a downtown Memphis hotel in July 2011. In December 2012, Officer Martoiya Lang was killed while serving a warrant.

Armstrong said officers are grieving, adding that “this is just a reminder of how dangerous” the job is.

“Sadly to say, we’ve been here before,” he said.

Memphis Mayor A.C. Wharton Jr. told reporters Saturday that Bolton’s death “speaks volumes about the inherent danger of police work.”

“Pray for the family and pray for our city,” he said.
