Charlotte Hospital Blocked ER Entrances For A Time

CMC tells WCNC in Charlotte that a patient came into the ER last night who had visited a country known for high-risk of infectious diseases. After consulting with the NC Department of Health and the Centers For Disease Control, it appears the risk for communicable disease is low.

The patient will be sent home, and no further testing is needed.

The official release from the Carolinas Medical Center:

Late last evening, a patient arrived at Carolinas Medical Center Emergency Department after visiting a country known for high risk of infectious diseases. We took all appropriate infection control measures to protect patients, staff, and visitors. After consulting with the Centers for Disease Control and the NC Department of Health and Human Services, it appears the risk for communicable disease is low. No further testing is needed and the patient will be sent home. The Emergency Department at Carolinas Medical Center remains open and operating normally.


Charlotte, NC (WCNC/WLTX) — The Carolinas Medical Center (CMC) in Charlotte currently has all entrances to their Emergency Room blocked by caution tape.

Charlotte Health Officials tell reporter Amy Cowman, with News 19’s sister-station WCNC, that they have spoken to the hospital, but would not provide any additional information as to what led to the emergency room being blocked off.

The hospital has yet to confirm a reason for the closure.

Charlotte Health Officials confirmed they have been in contact with the hospital, and will provide additional information within the hour.

WCNC in Charlotte reached out to the CDC to ask if it was involved in an investigation there. Officials referred questions to the North Carolina Department of Health.
