KATY, TX (KTRK) — Seven Lakes High School in Katy ISD was evacuated because of a possible safety issue, and officials say a suspect is in custody.
Officials said all 3,000 students were evacuated to the football stadium. They were then moved to the junior high to be picked up by their anxious parents at 1:30pm.
According to district officials, a suspicious-looking backpack was found on the east side of the school that was enough of a concern to bring to the attention of administrators.
A decision was made to evacuate students at 10am and everyone made it out safely.
The Houston Police Department bomb squad is at the school to look at the backpack and make a full sweep of the school. The FBI also has sent special agents to assist HPD, Katy police and the Harris County Sherriff’s Office to determine what, if any, threat is posed by the package.
Katy PD and Katy ISD police are the lead agencies.
Katy ISD confirms they have a male student in custody in connection to the security threat. No other details have been released.
